Bill Clinton defended his decision to pardon his half-brother Roger Clinton, drawing a sharp contrast to Biden’s recent pardon of his son, Hunter Biden.

Speaking at the New York Times DealBook Summit on Wednesday, Clinton highlighted that his brother had served time and contributed to justice before receiving a pardon, a nuance that, he implies, did not apply in Hunter Biden’s case.

Clinton pardoned Roger Clinton during his presidency after his half-brother had already served time for a 1985 conviction on drug charges. Roger, then in his 20s, had pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute cocaine and spent 14 months in federal prison.

Bill Clinton emphasized that the pardon was intended to restore his brother’s rights as a citizen, notably the right to vote, which had been stripped due to his felony status

The breaches infiltrated eight U.S. telecom companies and impacted dozens of other countries over a period of at least two years. This operation, labeled “Salt Typhoon,” compromised private communications and customer call records, primarily targeting government and political figures, including President Trump. Additionally, the hackers copied information that had been requested by U.S. law enforcement through court orders, and the breach may have also accessed the communications of everyday Americans. Despite ongoing efforts to address the attack, the breaches remain active in U.S. telecom networks.

The House of Representatives is set to vote this week on an annual defense bill, which includes $3 billion to remove Chinese telecom equipment from American wireless networks.

Originally passed in 2019, the act prohibits equipment and services that pose a national security risk from entering U.S. networks—chiefly targeting technology by Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE. It included the reimbursement fund to “rip and replace” technology made by the prohibited companies.

Anne Neuberger, deputy national security adviser for cyber and emerging technologies, recently revealed that Chinese state-sponsored hackers have compromised at least eight American telecommunications companies.

The telecoms that were breached have responded, but none “have fully removed the Chinese actors from these networks,” Neuberger said. “So there is a risk of ongoing compromises to communications, [and] until U.S. companies address the cybersecurity gaps, the Chinese are likely to maintain their access.”

Oil demand in China, the world’s top crude importer, could peak as early as next year as the penetration of electric vehicles and LNG trucks is accelerating, state-owned China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) said on Tuesday.

At this time last year, CNPC expected a peak in oil demand coming to China by 2030.

Now, after a year of EVs and LNG-fueled trucks displacing some gasoline and diesel demand, respectively, the peak in China’s oil demand may occur five years earlier, in 2025, according to a report by CNPC economists carried by Bloomberg.

Haoxiang Gao, 19, is a legal resident, but he is a Chinese citizen and thus not eligible to vote. He was studying at the University of Michigan when he allegedly voted on Oct. 27, according to a press release from the secretary of state’s office. Gao faces two felony charges: false swearing to register to vote and an unqualified elector attempting to vote. But officials still counted his ballot.

The Federalist has learned Gao is still on the state voter rolls, according to Qualified Voter File data provided by Check My Vote. Phani Mantravadi, the group’s co-founder, said it gets the data through Freedom of Information Act requests from the state bureau of elections.

The State Department revealed in a Monday filing that they are “substantially likely” to shut down their $100M Global Engagement Center (GEC), which was revealed in early 2023 to have been funding a “disinformation” tracking group which worked to pressure advertisers to demonetize outlets it accuses of spreading “disinformation.”

The move comes amid a lawsuit from Texas AG Ken Paxton and several conservative media outlets listed a GEC-funded “dynamic exclusion list” of websites it doesn’t like, which it would then distribute to ad tech companies – such as Microsoft’s Xandr – in order to try and “defund and downrank these worst offenders,” and deprive said sites of ad revenue.

According to court filings revealed Tuesday, Bragg’s office is fiercely opposed to dismissing the case outright but is open to pausing proceedings while Trump serves his second term as president.

The 82-page legal brief, prosecutors’ most detailed argument yet, stops short of recommending an explicit course of action but outlines several ways to keep the case alive. Among them: delaying sentencing until after Trump leaves office in 2029 or freezing the case while leaving the jury’s guilty verdict intact, The Hill reports.

“The extreme remedy of dismissing the indictment and vacating the jury verdict is not warranted in light of multiple alternative accommodations that would fully address the concerns raised by presidential immunity,” wrote Assistant District Attorney Christopher Conroy.

The 54-year-old justice will appear in a walk-on role in the Broadway musical comedy “& Juliet” on Saturday night, the production and a Supreme Court official confirmed Monday.

“& Juliet” is a modern take on William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” in which the female protagonist “ditches her famous ending for a fresh beginning and a second change [sic] at life and love — her way,” according to a promotional site. The musical features ’90s and early aughts pop songs from the likes of Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys and Kelly Clarkson.

An updated take on Romeo and Juliet sounds fairly innocent, but don’t be fooled. This is yet another Broadway show that is really an homage to deviant sexuality, particularly so-called transgenderism.
