Mark Twain, James Fenimore Cooper, Elizabeth George Speare and more
Americana and American values in great tales. Twain’s Huckleberry Finn has been been banned in many schools and libraries. To Kill A Mockingbird has recently been targeted as well. Many of these, products of their times, reveal more about racism and the calls to further freedom by righting those wrongs. That paints a far different and more accurate picture than what our kids are taught today.
Laura Ingalls Wilder
This series has been removed from libraries and elementary schools for portraying racist attitudes. The Association for Library Service to Children rescinded it’s award.
