Last week we made fun of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and their Barefoot Climate Corps.  Then Gov Whitmer gave them the power to declare Climate Emergencies.

The EGLE has landed my friends.

DHS Raids CCP Owned Fuyao In Ohio

Nearly 30 locations in the southern part of Montgomery County were hit as part of a Homeland Security raid on Friday.

HSI, in collaboration with IRS Criminal Investigation and other law enforcement agencies, executed federal search warrants at Fuyao Glass America and 27 other locations in Dayton, Liberty Township, Miamisburg, Moraine, and West Carrollton on Friday.

Matt Humerick, of Dayton, told News Center 7 that the home of Irving Avenue charged ownership a couple of years ago. He and his family have seen people they believe were being transported to Fuyao for work shifts at all hours.

“All throughout the day, they will come out, go to work,” Humerick said. “12, 13, 4 hours later [they’d] get dropped back off but all through the day, every hour, hour and a half.”

“Last Friday, July 26th, 2024, federal government agents and supporting local law enforcement officers visited Fuyao Glass America, Inc. (“FGA”) as part of an investigation which we believe involves certain contractor and its entities. While we believe FGA is not the target of this investigation, the Company intends to cooperate fully with the investigation.

As a result, part of our first shift and the second shift operations were suspended. FGA has resumed production in the third shift on the same day and we believe our production and delivery will not be impacted.”

Erasing Our Future With the CCP Bait And Switch

Last week I published an article on the increasing pace of replacing US industry with expertise from China.  That article is on our Cultural Courage Substack.  In Michigan Gotion is slated to constructed a lithium battery manufacturing facility and Ford is “partnering” with CATL.

Congressman Gallagher has found disturbing information regarding CATL.

As part of their ongoing investigation into Ford Motor Company’s partnership with China-based EV battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) to build a Michigan factory, Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party and Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) of the House Energy and Commerce Committee uncovered evidence that Ford plans to use technology and software from at least four Chinese companies that supply the same types of IT tools to the Chinese military, North Korean government, and China’s Ministry of Public Security.

In letters sent to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the lawmakers requested that the Biden administration immediately blacklist these four companies that Ford plans to use in its new factory with Chinese battery maker CATL.

Rep. Gallagher and Rep. McMorris Rodgers write, “It is indefensible for Ford to use the same cloud integration and data provider that is linked to North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs sanctions evasion activity.”

In Ohio, another CCP Company Fuyao has been allowed to open the largest safety glass manufacturing facility in the US.  As I wrote on Substack:

Cao Dewang, Chairman of Fuyao, invested considerable money in the Moraine Ohio facility.  2000 local workers were hired to be trained and eventually run the facility as a subsidiary.  From the start it’s easy to see that Chao has his plan and is not interested in input from local expertise.

State Agency Aligned with Climate Protest

Doesn’t this photo give them impression that the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy supports the protestors in this photo?

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a new round of bills into law this week, including one that will allow the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy to issue emergency orders.

Senate Bill 398 was introduced in June of 2023 by Sen. Sean McCann, D-Kalamazoo. It gives emergency authority to the state agency to protect natural resources when there is a threat to public health, safety or property.

The bill has some ironic origins, including a lawsuit brought by AG Dana Nessel against a reservoir, similar to the action she took against Midland reservoir which resulted in a catastrophic flood.  This second lawsuit was also to protect lake mussels.

In 2019, STS Hydropower and Eagle Creek Renewable Energy, which operate the Morrow Dam, lowered the water level to work on the dam’s spillway gates. That, however, allowed sediment to wash downriver and hurt the ecosystem, killing off critical mussel and fish habitat.

An estimated 400,000 cubic yards of silt was released, and as February 2022, only 0.5% of the silt had been removed by the responsible party. The Michigan Attorney General’s Office filed a lawsuit against STS Hydropower a month later for the mismanagement of Morrow Dam. The lawsuit is still pending.

Where’s Gretch?

Gretch’s Policies Bring Prosperity, Right?

MEDC is a familiar name, one of the most opaque entities that controls Michigan’s destiny and distributes money hand over fist to global concerns.  $200 Million was awarded to a Swedish company and guess what, the project never materialized.

“Gov. Whitmer wins major economic deals” declared the Michigan Economic Development Corporation in a December 2022 press release. It described a “transformational investment” in Escanaba. State officials had found favor with a Swedish paper company’s plan to expand and awarded it a 15-year exemption from property taxes, worth nearly $30 million.

The Development Corporation praised Gov. Whitmer the next month for signing legislation that gave the company an additional $200 million subsidy. It was called a “historic investment,” a “truly historic opportunity,” a “generational investment” and a “historic transformation” that “will help ensure [the paper mill’s] continued prosperity for generations to come.”
