“Contemporaneous news reports show Walz touring a National Guard storeroom in Alliance, Nebraska, in May 1989,” reports the Washington Free Beacon. “They indicate that Walz did not leave the United States until August of that year, at least two months after the student protests ended with the Tiananmen Square massacre.”

Walz also once described being in Hong Kong in May 1989, during the student uprising that culminated in the Tiananmen Square massacre — an assertion that is belied by newspaper accounts at the time. …The campaign was unable to produce documentation to back up Walz’s statement that he was there during the uprising.

David Axelrod:  Tim’s Answer Might As Well Have Been in Chinese

Axelrod said that Walz did have a strong moment while talking about the 2020 election and democracy, “And it was made more powerful when he turned to Vance and said, did he lose the election? And Vance wouldn’t answer the question. I thought that was damning.”

He added, “[T]he Tiananmen Square answer would have been best delivered in Chinese for as understandable as it wasn’t. The first answer on the Middle East was, he was nervous and it showed.”

Abortion Bill In Minnesota

Verdict: False. Walz made Minnesota the first in the nation to codify abortion via legislative action after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Minnesota is now one of nine states, including Washington, DC, that has no restrictions on abortion, meaning abortion would technically be legal in the final month of pregnancy. 

In also states that “every individual who becomes pregnant has a fundamental right to continue the pregnancy and give birth, or obtain an abortion, and to make autonomous decisions about how to exercise this fundamental right,” and claims that the principles established in the Minnesota Constitution ensure a “fundamental right to reproductive freedom.” 

The bill contains no gestational restrictions on abortion or restrictions for any other reason.
