Operation Mockingbird, a CIA operation that paid journalists to write articles, became a president, then a generation of Guardians of the Fallacy.

Operation Mockingbird
It was blown open in 1977 when famed journalist Carl Bernstein, who also, with his partner Bob Woodward, exposed the Watergate scandal in 1974. In his 1977 piece, The CIA and the Media, Bernstein revealed that certain reporters not only were paid by the U.S government, they also engaged in more extensive relationships with the CIA, even sharing notebooks, and some were paid upwards of $500,000 for their work.
President Mockingbird
Under Obama efforts to intimidate and control media took dramatic turns. Sharyl Atkinson was the most severe target of surveillance, and had intel gathering software installed on professional and home computers. She is still in litigation today with the State Department.
But if anyone needed a reminder of the dangers of domestic propaganda efforts, the past 12 months provided ample reasons. Last year, two USA Today journalists were ensnared in a propaganda campaign after reporting about millions of dollars in back taxes owed by the Pentagon’s top propaganda contractor in Afghanistan. Eventually, one of the co-owners of the firm confessed to creating phony websites and Twitter accounts to smear the journalists anonymously. Additionally, just this month, the Washington Post exposed a counter-propaganda program by the Pentagon that recommended posting comments on a U.S. website run by a Somali expat with readers opposing al-Shabab. “Today, the military is more focused on manipulating news and commentary on the Internet, especially social media, by posting material and images without necessarily claiming ownership,” reported the Post.

The dragnet raid against the Associated Press was not the extent of the administration’s assault on the press. Officials also conducted electronic surveillance of both New York Times reporter James Risen and Fox News correspondent James Rosen in an effort to identify their sources. The government even named Rosen as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in an espionage case brought against his source. Similarly, the administration asserted that it had the right to prosecute Risen, although it chose not to take that step. Those were all ominous warning signals of a government campaign to erase even the limited protections that the Pentagon Papers ruling had provided.
Smith-Mundt Act
Glen Greenwald reported on the relaxation of the rules under Obama to allow government agencies to influence public opinion.
Rep. Smith repeatedly insisted that his bill would not permit the domestic dissemination of any State Department program “intended to” influence public opinion inisde the U.S., but only ones intended for a foreign audience; aside from the impossibility of enforcing that distinction, I pointed out that the Press Release distributed by him and his GOP co-sponsor clearly argues that one reason this repeal was needed was to enable the State Department to influence public opinion among certain population segments within the U.S. The Press Release I referenced is here, and it states:
Contemporary interpretations of the law interfere with a range of communications activities, including public diplomacy, military communication efforts, and emergency and disaster response activities. It has also led to inaccurate reporting by American media about issues affecting global security.
Interestingly enough the US wanted to target Somalians living in the US.
For example, in 2009 the law prohibited a Minneapolis-based radio station with a large Somali-American audience from replaying a Voice of America-produced piece rebutting terrorist propaganda. Even after the community was targeted for recruitment by al-Shabab and other extremists, government lawyers refused the replay request, noting that Smith-Mundt tied their hands.
What Does Barry Say Today About Media Influence?
Refugee Program Under Obama
Somalians
During the Obama administration’s eight years in office, the State Department resettled roughly 54,000 Somali refugees throughout the United States, according to the Refugee Processing Center. About 6,320 of those people were resettled in Minnesota, the highest number of any state.

A housing program in Michigan is offering eligible refugees $500 per month, or $6,000 over a 12-month period, as a means of streamlining social integration.
Training Ai is Your Side Gig On Twitter
While Elawn filters your remarks, he is using your data to train his AI, for free. While the EU has put a stop to that practice, no mention of the issues has been made in the US.

On Sept. 4, X agreed to cease using personal data from users located in the EU and European Economic Area (EEA). Previously, X used this data to train its artificial intelligence chatbot Grok.
The court required that Twitter International, the company behind X’s operations, permanently comply with the data collection requests.
X said it would erase previous data from May 7 to Aug. 1 and agreed not to collect any further data for the sake of developing, enhancing or training Grok.
The DPC filed the initial complaint, citing a risk to the “fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals.” According to the EU data watchdog, this was the first time it had had to take such action and invoke its powers under Section 134 of the 2018 Data Protection Act.
Benson Intimidation
It should be noted that the Michigan Supreme Court did not rule today that RFKJr's name must remain on the ballot as a matter of law.

Benson Doesn’t Have to Remove RFK Jr From Ballot
Kennedy had sued Benson in her official SOS capacity to remove himself from the ballot. The Michigan Court of Appeals last Friday overturned a lower court ruling that kept Kennedy on the ballot. Friday was the deadline for the SOS to provide county clerks notice of the candidates scheduled to appear on the ballot.
According to Monday’s majority Supreme Court decision, Kennedy “neither pointed to any source of law that prescribes and defines a duty to withdraw a candidate’s name from the ballot nor demonstrated his clear legal right to performance of this specific duty.”

Introducing the Purposeful Warrior principles, Benson shares powerful stories from her rise in politics—from her time investigating domestic terrorist cells in Alabama, to becoming the youngest woman to lead a top 100 law school in the U.S., to launching a coalition of major sports leagues to advance equality with the owner of the Miami Dolphins, to becoming one of only a handful of women to complete the Boston Marathon while more than eight months pregnant—as well as those of paradigm-shifters throughout history, business leaders, sports icons, and everyday heroes who embody what it means to be a Purposeful Warrior.
Don’t Forget Marxist Mallory
State Senator McMurrow now has a book. That book will be sold at the book store that sponsored trans-reading hour for children. In her own words:
You may remember Sidetrack Books because some Michigan House Freedom Caucus members tried to boycott/protest our locally-owned bookshop (in an entirely different part of the state) and our little city showed up IN FORCE to show #HateWontWin https://t.co/iwWOea1eua
