Funds Outside State Determine MI Supreme Court Favoring Dems
“Dark money” helped Democratic nominees grow their ideological advantage on the Michigan Supreme Court last week, according to a Bridge Michigan analysis of campaign finance records.
Groups that do not disclose donors had spent more than $5 million on the races through late October, topping the combined $4 million raised by the four candidates in the election, which proved a bright spot for Democrats, who lost control of the state House and the White House.
The party’s two nominated candidates, incumbent Justice Kyra Harris Bolden and law professor Kimberly Ann Thomas, both easily won election. They beat Republican nominees Patrick O’Grady, a Branch County circuit court judge, and state Rep. Andrew Fink, R-Hillsdale, respectively.
They had help: In addition to outraising their opponents, the Democratic nominees had far more assistance from outside groups, including a dark money nonprofit registered in Massachusetts that was the largest Michigan Supreme Court donor this year.
How Is That In Each Election We Have More Voters?
The state is losing population and we cast more votes each year?
A new voting record has been set in Michigan: With 98% of votes counted, more than 5.6 million people voted in the 2024 presidential election according to unofficial results from the Associated Press — the most ballots cast in the state’s history.
“We’re now in the third of three back-to-back high turnout elections in our state,” Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson reported at a press briefing at Ford Field in Detroit after the polls closed Tuesday. “The early voting process … has undoubtedly made voting more convenient in our state, and I think that’s why we’re also seeing a lot of new voters show up this year.”
26,000 Votes Change Winners On Nov 8th
https://www.mlive.com/politics/2024/11/thousands-of-previously-unreported-votes-change-some-apparent-winners-in-michigan.html
About 26,000 unreported votes across four counties were added Friday afternoon to Michigan’s unofficial results, changing the apparent winners in some races.
State officials said they’re not aware of any outcomes changing in races in Kent and Kalamazoo counties from the additional votes. Kent County Clerk’s Office officials confirmed Saturday that no apparent winners have changed.
Michigan Department of State officials stressed that the results people see the night of Election Day and in the following days are unofficial until certified. That bipartisan certification process is designed to catch errors like the ones leading to these unreported votes, officials said.
Software Errors Again – 5,000 Votes Not “Transmitted”
Days after the Tuesday, Nov. 5, election, thousands of votes were found to be reported incorrectly in one Michigan county, with the possibility of altering the outcome of a race.
Calhoun County posted its vote tallies online following the election, however untallied votes were later discovered, according to an attorney.
“These inadvertent errors are designed to be corrected by the county canvass. We are closely monitoring to ensure the process is done correctly and in accordance with law.”
Michigan Sent Democrat Slotkin With NDAs To US Senate
Republic Mike Rogers was in the lead with 90% of the votes in. Slotkin won after absentee ballots were submitted with a group of ballots discovered in Kalamazoo.

Why do our representatives need to sign Non Disclosure Agreements? Then refuse to discuss that have even signed? IF MEDC is the agency that will be distributing the funds and champions the projects, why isn’t the answer “I followed the protocol”. During standard bidding processes after proposals have been submitted, they then become public record.
The U.S. Senate race in Michigan has been marked by accusations and counteraccusations between Republican candidate Mike Rogers and Democratic candidate Elissa Slotkin regarding their alleged ties to Chinese interests, particularly related to the Gotion battery plant project in Mecosta County.
Rogers and other Republicans have criticized Slotkin for signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) related to potential economic development projects in her congressional district, claiming it helped a Chinese company, despite the NDA not specifically mentioning Gotion. Slotkin’s campaign has denied any wrongdoing and stated that she never signed an agreement related to Gotion or the Chinese government.
Meanwhile, Slotkin’s campaign and Democratic groups have accused Rogers of benefiting from Chinese interests through his post-congressional work in the telecommunications industry, alleging he helped Chinese tech companies gain access to the U.S. market. However, fact-checking organization PolitiFact has concluded that these claims are false.

What Is The National Vote Compact?
The National Voter Compact is an agreement among several U.S. states and the District of Columbia aimed at ensuring that the presidential candidate who receives the most votes nationwide is elected president.
- Electoral Vote Allocation: Under the NPVIC, participating states agree to allocate all their electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote, regardless of how that candidate performs in their own state.
- Activation Threshold: The compact will only take effect when states representing at least 270 electoral votes (a majority needed to win the presidency) have joined. Currently, 17 states and Washington, D.C., have enacted this law, totaling 209 electoral votes.
- Maintaining the Electoral College: The NPVIC does not abolish the Electoral College but modifies its function. It allows states to retain control over how they award their electoral votes while ensuring that the winner of the national popular vote is also the winner of the electoral vote from these states.

What Does MIGOP Say? Nothing
But thankfully the same donors who gave us Tudor Dixon and who then withheld funds stepped up to the plate.
Thankfully, a number of the major donors had set up other organizations because they were not even planning on having a political party in the mix for 2024. Mike Rogers had set up his own get-out-the-vote effort, grassroots effort, a phenomenal organization. So that was in place. Dick DeVos and others had set up this thing called the Freedom Fund, which was focused solely on taking back the House majority. I had a great relationship with the Freedom Fund, with John Engler and Rick Snyder, they stepped up
Lame Duck Gains Us …?
The Mackinac Center has projections on the budget expenditure to job ratio for the State of Michigan.
https://www.mackinac.org/blog/2024/michigan-democrats-top-priority-has-been-special-business-favors
The Michigan Legislature has approved of $4.6 billion in corporate incentives this term. The top approvers of corporate welfare in Michigan are all Democrats. Dozens of legislative Democrats have voted to approve 100% of incentive votes that came across their desks. Most of the Democrats in the state senate voted for more than $5 billion in special business breaks. There are bills on the table during the current “lame duck” session that could raise that to $11 billion in corporate welfare — or more than $1,100 for every man, woman and child in the state.

Of the 434 Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) credits approved for new jobs from 2005 to the end of the program in 2011, only 10 projects met or exceeded their estimated job counts. In other words, just 2.3 percent of MEGA projects met or exceeded expectations.
The Michigan Economic Development Corp., which oversaw the program, projected that these projects would create 122,785 jobs. In fact, only 13,914 materialized.
FEMA Staging 350 Tractor Trailers in Oscoda?
Reports have surfaced of Federal Emergency Management Agency staging trucks across north central Michigan, including at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base, sparking speculation and fears about the agency’s doings and prompting elected representatives to seek clarification from FEMA officials.
In the wake of the concerns, FEMA and Oscoda officials finally issued statements saying the site was merely being considered for material staging, according to independent reporter Dave Bondy.
While the staging was reported to have been under way, the site’s purposes had been a mystery, leading to forgivable speculation and worries among residents amidst the agency’s failures in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
